St. George Deaf Branch

While ASL is my one true love, I really like church too.
Just kidding just kidding, I love the gospel a whole lot more, but yesterday I got to combine the two and it was a beautiful thing! I attended Sacrament meeting at the Deaf branch here and it was just the perfect spiritual uplift!
I took my first ASL class at BYUH last year and was immediately reigned in by its beauty and depth. It fascinates me beyond comparison and the people I have met through my contact with the Deaf culture are incredible! My teacher was the cutest, kindest, most put together lady ever, and my tutor was hilarious and so approachable.
My class didn't transfer directly to Dixie, so I am taking level one again this semester but I am so glad! I LOVE my class and my teacher and all I have learned and continue to learn. I love this world that I have never known anything about until 11 months ago. My teacher is Deaf and SO SO SO knowledgable about anything and everything. He knows what all of his students are trying to say even when we don't know how. He describes and explains signs and concepts so well, giving their meaning and background and makes us laugh all class long. I love his insight from the Deaf point of view, it is so helpful. He is just really intelligent about ASL and English and hearing and Deaf cultures and I can't get enough. Our class is hilarious, we have really become good friends and we have so much fun together. They help me learn.
Our class is just a protected little place though, and going to Deaf community events always reminds me of how much I do not know. Wow. I have a long way to go. But I love every minute of it. Yesterday at church was so spiritual for me! Just another testament that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, because it carries across exactly to every culture and every ethnicity and every continent, no matter where or who you are, it is the same. It is unchanged.

I love hands! :)
